Experience:

In the early 1980's I worked with several good contractors in Orange County, NC, and learned the carpentry and painting trades. I soon started my own business as a contractor for small repair and remodeling projects.

The jobs grew larger and more complicated over the years and I received my NC General Contractors License in 1996 (#37381).

I am particularly experienced with passive solar building and historic preservation, and I have a strong interest in green building methods.

Over more than 30 years I've gained a great deal of experience and expertise, building and repairing and remodeling all types and ages of homes, and every kind of outbuilding from composting privies to artists' studios to large horse barns.

I have often taken challenging jobs that other contractors turned down: houses with complex rooflines, unusual materials, or hard-to-please clients. Those experiences helped me learn a great deal about buildings, the code book, and personal relations.

My college background gave me good writing skills, and my experiences with clients have helped me to become a good communicator. I speak and understand Spanish well enough to communicate with clients who do not speak English.

Because I have so much experience in repair I have a good ability to recognize and diagnose potential problems, and I generally know when a problem that looks bad may not really be very threatening.

I received my NC Home Inspectors License in 2004 (#2051) and began this business early in 2005. The business is going well, and my clients appreciate my prompt, informative and complete reports. I feel I have a lot to offer to my clients, and I'm excited about my work. I hope you'll call me when you have need of an inspection.

Personal:

I have lived in Orange County since 1962, when I was six. Much of my family still lives here, too. I am married to Nettie Lassiter and until 2013 we lived in a hundred-year-old house in the Historic District in Hillsborough. In 2013 we moved into a beautiful new small house with many green features.

I enjoy singing and playing Piano and Accordion with my musical friends, and I'm an avid organic gardener and amateur naturalist.
